On 8 June, EU Development Ministers held an informal meeting via video conference and discussed the progress made in the implementation of the Team Europe package, aimed at supporting developing countries in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Neris Germanas said that all countries were equally important in the fight against the pandemic. Thus, viewing from a geographical perspective, the Eastern partner countries and other countries should not be discriminated against.
N. Germanas stressed the importance of effective communication and reminded his counterparts of the joint initiative of the Baltic states and Slovakia to combat disinformation from third parties during the pandemic and in the future.
“A joint effort by the EU to support developing countries will not be effective, unless we take ambitious action to counteract hostile propaganda by third parties,” said N. Germanas.
