A concert dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Čiurlionis’ birth was held in Zagreb
The Lithuanian Embassy in Croatia, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth of composer and painter Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, organized a concert by the Xylos Trio and opened an exhibition of Čiurlionis’ artworks at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall in Zagreb on September 22.
"This anniversary is a special occasion to introduce the Croatian public to the world of this outstanding Lithuanian artist, where music and painting blend harmoniously. We are delighted to listen to Čiurlionis’ music, performed jointly by talented Lithuanian and Croatian musicians. We believe that his music and the exhibition of his works will offer the Croatian audience a new perspective on Lithuanian culture," said Eduardas Borisovas, Lithuanian Ambassador to Croatia, at the event’s opening.
Čiurlionis’ music was performed by the musicians of the Xylos Trio: Ieva Pranskutė (violin), Mislav Brajković (cello), and Sven Brajković (piano). All three are renowned soloists and chamber musicians, winners of international awards, and active performers on European stages.
Following the concert, the audience had the opportunity to view an exhibition prepared by the embassy, featuring 14 reproductions of Čiurlionis’ artworks.
Čiurlionis (1875–1911) was a visionary whose work united music and visual art. Despite his early death, he produced more than 400 musical compositions and 300 paintings. He developed a symbolic visual language inspired by mythology, religion, philosophy, and cosmology. His legacy left a profound mark on Lithuanian cultural history and made a significant contribution to European modernist art.
The event was attended by Croatian political, social, and cultural figures, members of the diplomatic corps, and the Lithuanian community.
