Honorary Consulate of Lithuania Opened in Kosovo, Restoration of Statehood Day Commemorated

On February 19, Lithuanian Ambassador to Croatia Eduardas Borisovas officially opened the Lithuanian Honorary Consulate in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, headed by businessman Bashkim Zeqiri. The 108th anniversary of the restoration of Lithuania's state was also commemorated during the ceremony.

“The opening of the Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Kosovo is a significant step toward consistently strengthening bilateral relations. Lithuania and Kosovo will have more opportunities to develop economic, cultural, and academic exchanges and to strengthen human ties. The establishment of the Honorary Consulate reflects our commitment to enhance cooperation and support Kosovo's European path. We are delighted that this special occasion has also provided an opportunity to officially celebrate Lithuania's State Restoration Day in Pristina for the first time,” said Ambassador Borisovas.

The Ambassador also congratulated the assembled representatives of Kosovo on Kosovo Independence Day, celebrated on March 17.

Honorary Consul Bashkim Zeqiri expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him and confirmed his readiness to promote cooperation between the two countries, increase Lithuania's visibility in Kosovo, and deepen business ties.

The gathering was also greeted by Ardian Gola, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Kosovo, and Xhelal Sveçla, Minister of Internal Affairs of Kosovo.

The event was attended by representatives of Kosovo institutions, the diplomatic corps, representatives of the Lithuanian Armed Forces serving in the NATO-led international operation in Kosovo (KFOR), and KFOR leadership.

The consular district of the Lithuanian Honorary Consulate in Pristina covers the entire territory of Kosovo. This is the first Lithuanian honorary consulate in Kosovo.
