Third Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Croatia Opens in Split

On October 10, Lithuanian Ambassador to Croatia Eduardas Borisovas opened the Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Split, headed by lawyer Feđa Bone. On the occasion of the opening, an exhibition dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis was inaugurated at the Croatian National Theater in Split.

“The opening of the new Honorary Consulate in Split is an important step in strengthening the friendship between Lithuania and Croatia. The appointment of lawyer F. Bone as honorary consul will further expand economic, cultural, and social ties between the two countries and promote Lithuania’s visibility in the Dalmatia region,” said Lithuanian Ambassador to Croatia Eduardas Borisovas.

The ambassador noted that Lithuania is celebrating the 150th anniversary of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis this year and is placing great emphasis on introducing the artist to Croatian audiences.

“We are delighted to open an exhibition dedicated to M. K. Čiurlionis in Split and to introduce this brilliant Lithuanian artist to the people of the city. We hope that, following the opening of the new honorary consulate, there will be even more similar cultural projects in Split,” said Ambassador Borisovas.

Honorary Consul Feđa Bone emphasized his determination to strengthen cooperation between Lithuania and Croatia in various fields and expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him.

The event was also addressed by Matea Dorčić, Deputy Mayor of Split, and Marija Čizmić, Director of the County Council and Legal Affairs Department of the Split-Dalmatia County Administration.

Croatian opera soloists Ivona Bosančić Lasić, Vladimir Garić, and Božo Župić performed at the ceremony.

The event was attended by representatives of the city of Split, as well as members of the Lithuanian community.

The exhibition of reproductions of Čiurlionis’ artworks, displayed in the foyer of the Croatian National Theater in Split, will be open until October 17.

There are currently three honorary consulates of the Republic of Lithuania in Croatia — in Starigrad (Zadar County), Dubrovnik, and Split.
